This game just keeps looking better. Check out the latest video explaining the multiplayer component of the game, which is something of an MMORPG/FPS hybrid. I love the idea of actually forming a “posse” with your friends, and that you don’t have to necessarily fight player characters all the time.
My one spot of worry though is when I heard about the fifty levels and item upgrades. Cool and everything, but the whole FPS RPG thing is starting to wear a little thin on me. Already I’m at level 29 in Bad Company 2, and now it takes about 25 rounds of hardcore point accruing to “level up,” which has little effect any more. In the first Modern Warfare it took about three days to get to max level, whereupon I found the best gun (for me) was the RPD, which is what, level 2?
Anyway, my worry is that the initial draw of this mode is the leveling system, and since this is a compelling feature because you can fill up bars, it also means that when you’re done upgrading you can lose interest like crazy. I’m already hitting that wall with Bad Company 2– will the gameplay be reward enough for the player to keep playing beyond the end of XP Road? I certainly hope so.
