Every warrior ever attacks you!!

Bringing up the slack (possibly) in the MMO market, Final Fantasy XIV now has some excellent sub-variants of the various races already available for play. With “hyur” (humans) we have highlanders…

And then we have normal humans (I mean Hyur, excuse me), known as midlanders:

As for the equivalent of Mithra from FFXI, we have Miqo’te, day and night versions (like Pokemon):

Next up, an inspired Taru Taru analogue in the form of the Lalafell, which have a plains and desert variant, known as… plainsfolk and dunesfolk:

The elves of FFXIV, the Elezen, with “forester” and “shader” (cave-dweller or dark-elf) variants:

Last but not least, the Galka, now named Roegadyn, have a seafaring variant and also a volcanic, magical one (known as the “Hellsguard”):

Still no word on whether these racial “tribe” variants will affect things other than appearance, but if the Hellsguard for the Roegadyn have more magic aptitude, it’s likely there will be some sort of allowance for the other tribes as well. We applaud the aesthetic and emotive detail in these previews and hope that the FFXIV team will continue their excellent work.

Some more shots of the races:
