And we’re back! After a long hiatus from jobs, grad school, and other personal business, we are back into the thick of things once more. What better way to start afresh then to provide some news during the week of E3 2011. There is much in store so let’s get straight to it. Here is a highly anticipated game for many on the PS3, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, due out on November 1, 2011. Drake’s fate is drawn into the adventures and stories of T. E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia).

Sony’s PlayStation Move

This week has been definitely filled with new items and games from everyone. Microsoft announces their slimmed console along with their motion capture device Kinect, so naturally Sony reveals their latest attempt into the motion capture realm. Sony announced on Tuesday the launch of their new device, Move. Move will be released on September 19, and can be purchased in a bundle with both sets of the controller (yes it is almost exactly like the Wii controller) along with the PlayStation Eye and Move Sports Championship game. Why is everyone releasing a sports game with these things? Oh wait, probably because the Wii did awesome with just the console and Wii Sports when it came out. You can expect to pay $99 for the whole bundle or if you’re in the market for a new console you can pick one up with the Move controller for $399.

The idea behind the design is that the giant ball attached to the end of the controller will change color based on your lighting and background environment in the room. The PlayStation Eye will then track the ball more efficiently. Sony’s goal is to have a more 1:1 ration of your actual movements. I hope that the tracking is indeed more close to 1:1 for games. Just imagine Force Unleashed II with this thing, though it probably won’t be compatible with the game. Anyway, check out the latest screens.

PlayStation 3 Firware Update 3.0

The release of the the PlayStation 3 120G (Slim) model goes on sale officially today though many stores have been selling the system since last week on Tuesday and Wednesday. I personally received my PS3 Slim from Amazon last Friday. With the release of the system, the new firmware releases as well. Sony has officially said that this would be their last “big” update for the 2009 year, but that minor updates may be in the near future.

Here is the official details from the PlayStation 3 Blog website.

“What’s New” – The “Information Board” will be replaced with a “What’s New” section, which allows you to enjoy interactive PlayStation news every time you start the PS3 system. Located under the PlayStation Network icon, “What’s New” displays the latest and greatest game, video, PlayStation Network and PlayStation news and releases, as well as your recently played games, in a sleek, new animated format.
Status Indicator – In the top right corner we’ve added an indicator bar, which displays your user icon, friend icon, the number of friends you have online and a small message icon to let you know if you have any new messages. The indicator also includes a scrolling ticker that features the latest news from PlayStation Network. In addition, when you press the PS button, the battery life indicator will no longer cover up the clock.
Friends List – Now your PlayStation Network friends will appear in a slightly redesigned format on your Friends List. Also, messages will now be viewable from each of your friends’ respective profiles.
PlayStation Store Shortcuts – We’ve added a handy shortcut icon to the PlayStation Store under both the Game and Video categories so you can access the latest content quickly and easily.
Personalization – Personalize your PS3 with new dynamic custom themes and avatars. Dynamic themes as well as free and premium avatars will be available through PlayStation Store. A dynamic theme takes your screen to a whole new level as it incorporates animated objects into the background.
Trophies – Showcasing your hard earned trophies just got better. Update 3.00 gives game developers the ability to modify how they display trophies for add-on content. Base and add-on game trophies will continue to be combined into a single list so you can see where you stand in a game as a whole. Within that list, trophies will be broken out into subcategories—base trophies and add-on trophies—that way, you can easily view the percentage of your base game trophy collection, and separately track your trophy progress in add-on packs. Look for this enhancement to be included in upcoming games.

One of the biggest part of the update that I noticed was the new appearance of the XMB. It now has glowing pixels that fly around in the background. I also noticed that the font was a little larger than what it was previously. Another big part of the update was the dynamic themes that you can use. I have yet to try out any of them since they cost money in the PSN Store. And of course whenever you start up your system now it takes you to the “Whats New” section of the menu. I hope to have more on the PS3 Slim soon as well as a review with unboxing pictures. Stay tuned for more.

PS3 Slim Unvealed at GamesCom

Engadget has just revealed photos at GamesCom of Sony unveiling the PS3 Slim. The system will have the same features as the original PS3 but consuming 34% less power and 32% less space. Sony is also planning on reducing the price of the 80Gb model to $299 and the Uncharted Bundle to $399 as well. You can check out their post here. Click the post for more PS3 Slim pictures.

GamesCom Press Conference: PS3 Slim Announcement?

On August 19 in Cologne Germany, thousands will gather for Europe’s GamesCom conference in hopes of becoming Germany’s leading trade show for interactive gaming and entertainment. This debut event hopes to attract the entire industry, as well as anyone interested in video games or computers. Here is an excerpt from the conferences website which you can go to here.

As a game trade fair, games festival and business platform, it is the place to be if you want to try out new games, socialise, celebrate or just simply be astonished. Nearly 400 exhibitors from all over the world will present their innovations in the area of interactive entertainment electronics. This is the world and European premiere of numerous computer games which are just waiting for you to test them.

With all major gaming conferences you can expect the big companies to be there. Among them include Sony and Microsoft. Upon further digging into their website I found this little bit of info on what people will expect on the 19th.

In short, video and PC, online and browser games producers and hardware providers, too, will be presenting their latest developments, with exhibitors presenting more than one hundred world, European and German premieres.

Many expect the much anticipated announcement from Sony on the PS3 Slim. Already there have been multiple leaked photos of the system. Within the past week, one French retailer has let slip more information that the system would be released in September in Europe for $299. Again, Sony has made no comments on the system yet.

All in all we expect to hear some pretty important news from the conference in Germany. If you click on this link here you can get the full list (a pretty hefty list mind you) of games that will debut at the conference. I will update you in a few days for any groundbreaking news.
