Here is yet another anticipated game by many out there. E3 has provided us with a debut trailer showing off the new game along with gameplay footage utilizing the Wii motion plus. Author Stephen Totilo over at kotaku had a chance to play the demo at the E3 convention and was overall impressed with the game.

So no complaints on controls, an almost-perfect button layout and a "decent" for graphics. I enjoyed romping through the game's demo and had the most fun at a boss. This game's probably going to be good. No surprise, it's a Zelda.

On August 19 in Cologne Germany, thousands will gather for Europe’s GamesCom conference in hopes of becoming Germany’s leading trade show for interactive gaming and entertainment. This debut event hopes to attract the entire industry, as well as anyone interested in video games or computers. Here is an excerpt from the conferences website which you can go to here.

As a game trade fair, games festival and business platform, it is the place to be if you want to try out new games, socialise, celebrate or just simply be astonished. Nearly 400 exhibitors from all over the world will present their innovations in the area of interactive entertainment electronics. This is the world and European premiere of numerous computer games which are just waiting for you to test them.

With all major gaming conferences you can expect the big companies to be there. Among them include Sony and Microsoft. Upon further digging into their website I found this little bit of info on what people will expect on the 19th.

In short, video and PC, online and browser games producers and hardware providers, too, will be presenting their latest developments, with exhibitors presenting more than one hundred world, European and German premieres.

Many expect the much anticipated announcement from Sony on the PS3 Slim. Already there have been multiple leaked photos of the system. Within the past week, one French retailer has let slip more information that the system would be released in September in Europe for $299. Again, Sony has made no comments on the system yet.

All in all we expect to hear some pretty important news from the conference in Germany. If you click on this link here you can get the full list (a pretty hefty list mind you) of games that will debut at the conference. I will update you in a few days for any groundbreaking news.

Now I’ve just recently stumbled upon Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story and I thought I would talk about it a little here. We’ve all played Mario here at Pixel Well, in all his four-hundred plus incarnations (and some even dared to watch the live-action movie), and so maybe I feel like I have some “cred” in the way of Mario commentary. Syndic and I have watched Mario turn from side scrolling to 3d platformer to RPG to sunshine (yeah, that one) and it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Mario is analogous to a layer of bedrock: documenting the change in the course of video games since the dawn of digital interaction.

Now, what’s most curious about Mario, like Sonic, is to see where each developer takes the franchise. Sonic, I’m afraid to say, has seen some dark times. Mario is doing a lot better I would have to say, despite my knee-jerk reaction to Inside Story. Let me get the gist of it out here. Its the third installment in the Partners in Time arc, and with most Mario games I can at least say that the most recurrent element are the characters. The point here is that you’re inside Bowser, as the name implies. And while you may also knee-jerk something to the tune of “doesn’t a typical living orgasm include a colon?” once you get past that I hear the game takes on quite a nice style. The rub is in the division of gameplay elements. You platform/rpg your way through Bowser as the dynamic brotherly duo, while simultaneously participating in an isometric Bowser adventure.

I have to hand it to Nintendo on this one. It sounds like a fun game. Yeah, body parts, I know. Sure there’s been other inside-the-body-exploration games, but this sounds like it barely reaches gimmick escape velocity. Plus, something about the game appearing on the DS platform allows it some slack. Imagine if it was on the Wii and trying to live up to the Mario Galaxy production… I’ll just say that Nintendo is doing a good job maintaining their track record with Mario. I can’t say the same for Sonic (here’s looking at you, Sonic and the Black Knight). Check out some screenshots to get a feel for the style. I’m digging it.
